The client wanted their collection to be displayed inside a beautiful book. To respond to this brief a visual identity was designed that provided a look and feel for the book. Concepts were provided for page layouts, cover, renderings and production. Materials played an important role in the creation of this hard bound book. Tactility, appearance and scent combine to create a unique reading experience. For this book, a buckram cover combines with hot foil stamping and Fedrigoni section sewn pages.
Buckram is available in a number of vibrant colours, it is hard wearing and takes hot foil stamping really well. Bookbinders find it easy to work with and it can be wiped with a damp cloth.
Section sewn books, result in an elegant design that opens to lay near flat, with very limited bowing from the centre. To achieve this result, sections of folded pages (signatures) are sewn together with thread. Each signature is stitched together forming a book block that is then glued along the binding edge to give extra strength and durability.
Foil stamping involves the transfer of foil to the surface of a book or substrate via the application of heat and pressure using metal etched or engraved 'dies'. The result is a bright, mirror-like, metallic finish that provides a touch of luxury to the design.
There are many different foil finishes to choose from; metallic, satin, sheen, gloss pigment, fluorescent, matt pigment, gloss transparent, pearlescent, holographic, metal effect, transparent holographic, security, hologram, brushed and patterned. For the best results make sure the substrate you choose is right for the selected foil.
Volume 1 2020 uses environmentally-friendly Fedrigoni ECF paper that certifies FSC®. High content of recycled material (minimum quantity guaranteed 40%). Triple blade coated on both sides with a satin finish.
FSC forest management certification confirms that the forest is being managed in a way that preserves biological diversity and benefits the lives of local people and workers, while ensuring it sustains economic viability.
